Today I saw someone almost hit another man.
The ‘attacker’ was a middel-aged guy in an Alto, coming from the layout with his wife in the passenger seat. When he reached the main road, he decided(like so many of the alavalathis in the layout) that he would rather go right, and take the gap in the divider, instead of going on the left and taking a U-turn(In India, we drive on the left side of the road.). It didn’t seem to bother him that 9 in the morning is one of the busiest time of the day, and the traffic was already moving quite slow. So he takes a right, and now he is facing the whole of the incoming traffic. Traffic comes to an absolute halt, and one of the bikers ask this Alto driver what was he thinking. Which I am wondering as well, waiting to cross the road.
The Alto guy began shouting abuses and the man on the bike stood his ground. That is when the Alto driver picked up something from the back-seat and tried to hit the biker. I was going to call the police(though I don’t think it would have mattered. They will come after an hour, if they even decided to come.). The wife held the man’s hand, and after some more words, the biker left. The Alto still took the wrong lane, and crossed over some time later.
I do not ask for civic sense or duty from everyone. (Of course I do not follow it either.). Can’t people at least follow the basic rules? Like not driving the wrong way in a one-way lane?
Reminds me why I no longer drive to office.
