It is my brother’s opinion that learning Kalarippayattu will not really help in an actual fight. He says, you will be starting with those steps while the other guy (who shouldn’t have gone to a Kalari, by the way) just kicks your butt. Even though I always laughed at it, I had also wondered whether it was true. I know learning any martial arts stuff AND practising it will help and otherwise pitham pidichavan/val be stronger and active(r) and stuff, but will it really help you in an actual fight with an equally strong person who didn’t have technic, but had a will to fight and strength?
envy and stuff

Unless you plan on making fighting a major part of your life, learning martial arts is far more about self discipline and helping you get out of an emergency situation. If it buys you enough time to run away, then that’s good. But unless you are well practiced in serious fighting then never use it to engage with someone
What if the other person has a gun :P
Well, i agree with Kim. It just helps you to get out of situations mostly than getting on top .
And i think that answers Dhanya’s comment too.
Interesting observations.
I must one day learn some martial art at least to be self disciplined.
I try to never be in a situation where people actually fight, but you never know.
